Joselewicz, Berek
(c. 1768-1809)
   Polish patriot. Born in Kretinga, Lithuania, he worked in commerce and entered the service of Vilna's prince-bishop. He was later attracted to the ideals of the French Revolution, and he became an ally of Polish liberals who favoured Jewish emancipation. He later organized a separate Jewish cavalry in the Polish uprising against the Russians. He later joined Napoleon's Polish Legion and became a French dragoon officer.
